For the last three days, Civil Beat video chief Anthony Quintano was holed up in a hillside house livestreaming the fiery lava flows and massive steam clouds erupting out of the newest fissures on the flanks of Kilauea.

The house’s owner, Jonathan Davidson, who had earlier evacuated, graciously loaned out his home to Anthony and other photographers — and even left behind a full fridge that included a dish of homemade eggplant parmigiana. Though safely above the action, the noisy blasts and constant tremors were still unsettling, Anthony said.

Thousands of people from all over the globe followed the livestream on Civil Beat’s Facebook page, with Anthony answering their questions about what they were seeing and the latest news developments.
